Do You Bathe in Chlorinated Water?
One of the most significant risks to our health is not about what we put in our body by way of food and water but what we put on our body by bathing in chlorinated water. The skin is the body’s largest organ and easily absorbs contaminants. It is estimated that up to 2/3rds of our absorption of and sequestering of chlorine and chlorine byproducts comes from skin absorption and inhalation while bathing and showering in tap water. A warm shower or bath opens our pores and chlorine and other chemicals are readily absorbed by our skin. Studies have shown that your body can absorb more chlorine in a ten-minute shower than in drinking eight glasses of the same water.
Steam that we inhale during a shower can contain up to 50 times the amount of chemicals than tap water due to lower vaporization temperatures of chlorine and other contaminants than water. Chlorine vapor is a strong irritant to lung tissues and bronchial passages. The inhalation of chlorine is a suspected cause of asthma and bronchitis, especially in children which has increased 300% in the last two decades.
